Tigers complete Miami sweep with 12-6 win

Malachi Woodside drove in 2, scored twice, and collected 2 hits in the win

Coming off an unbelievable comeback victory less than 24 hours before, the Tigers were looking to take home the HSBN tournament Championship vs. North Broward Prep. The Tigers' offense picked up right where it left off last night, scoring multiple runs in each of the first 4 innings on Saturday afternoon.

Leadoff man, Bennett Lee, started off the game with an infield single before BJ Graham reached on an error. Cole Russo put Jesuit's first home run of the season over the RF fence and after 3 batters, the Tigers were up 3-0 on the score board. Brandon Incardona reached base on error to start the second and made it to third on another error, giving Jimmy Clifford the chance to come through with a sac fly that gave Jesuit a 4-0 lead. Another sac fly by Henry Politz later in the inning, gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

North Broward Prep answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the second, but the Tigers once again put up multiple runs on the board in the 3rd. Incardona drove in Jonathan Shoop with a double, after having a double in last night's comeback win. Clifford drove in his second run of the game with a single, and Lee picked up his third hit of the game in as many at bats on a 2-RBI double. The Tigers followed the 4-run third inning with 3 more runs in the 4th. Malachi Woodside drove in two runs with a double after Joe Casale doubled and Shoop walked to begin the inning. Lee drove in another run with a ground out to give the Tigers a 12-2 lead at the time.

The Tigers were held scoreless for the last three innings, but they did damage throughout the order on Saturday. Every starter reached base at least twice and 7/9 starters scored in the rout. Bennett Lee led the way for the second straight day, going 4/5 with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, and 2 doubles. Russo had 3 RBI, all coming on his HR, while Woodside and Clifford also drove in multiple runs. The Tiger offense has scored at least 6 runs in 4/5 games so far (including preseason). If they continue to put up 6+ runs, and even 3+ with their pitching staff, the Tigers will have an extremely successful season.

On the mound, Alex Bryant got the start and went three innings, giving up two runs while striking out two. AJ Karabenick, Dominic Castellano, and Turner Thompson combined to throw the last 4 innings, giving up 4 runs. Jesuit's defense got back on track Saturday, only making one error.

Jesuit's trip to Miami went as well as possible, leaving the 305 as HSBN tournament champions and a 3-0 start to their season. Jesuit showed off their ace Thursday night, resilience and fight Friday night, and strength of their lineup Saturday afternoon. In total, Jesuit outscored their opponents 27-14 on the trip. It's only the beginning to a long season, but the Tigers have gotten off on the right foot.

Next week the Tigers play @ Spoto on Tuesday night and have their home opener on Thursday against Pace Academy.
